SHC Tri-Valley East Wing Hospital Addition
Design Review Application – Project Narrative
TAYLOR DESIGN – 6370.101

5

Support Services Building (ASSB). Currently there is a deficiency of approximately 14,000 DGSF for these key
support services. The third-floor level will include a new Laboratory, Pharmacy and Sterile Processing
Department (SPD) to help resolve these capacity shortfalls and support the greater Emergency Department
objectives. After activation of the new SPD space on the third-floor level, the existing SPD on the first-floor level
will be backfilled with storage.
The roof level will include an enclosed mechanical penthouse approximately 3,500 square feet in area and a
screened mechanical enclosure for the remainder of the new roof area.
In preparation for construction of the new hospital addition several make-ready projects will be required. These
include re-routing of existing underground utilities within the footprint of the new hospital addition,
reconfiguration of the existing loop drive, demolition of the existing ambulance canopy and construction of a
new temporary ambulance canopy/parking area (Figure 1). Additional site modifications include reconfiguration
of the existing campus loop road and new surface parking to replace existing parking spaces displaced by the
new work.

Figure 1 - Temporary Ambulance Parking and Canopy
Emergency water and wastewater storage tanks are required for the hospital to meet the 2030 State of
California deadline for seismic resiliency. The project’s scope includes installation of new NPC-5 compliant
potable water and wastewater storage tanks for the entire hospital and SPC 4D and NPC 4 evaluation and
upgrades to the existing arcade canopy near the emergency department.
