Pleasanton BART October 9, 2025
Site Re-Use Options Memorandum

8

b. Bicycle Circulation Alternatives
Two options were developed for the configuration of the bicycle lane on Owens Drive—retain
the class II design (bike lane located between the travel lane and drop-off zone) or create a
class IV protected bike lane (bicycle lane located between the sidewalk and drop-off zone).

i. Option B-1: Bike Lane Class II “On-Street” Configuration

Figure 2-4: "On-Street" configuration for bike lane along Owens Drive with circulation option A-1.
Figure 2-5: "On-Street" configuration for bike lane along Owens Drive with circulation option A-2.
This configuration places the bicycle lane between the travel lane and the passenger drop-off
zones, creating separation between cyclists and pedestrians. This configuration also delineates
the BART drop-off zone by establishing a dedicated drop-off lane and an access lane, with a
six-foot-wide median separating the drop-off zone from the bike lane and the motor vehicles
lanes on Owens Drive.

ii. Option B-2: Protected Bike Lane “Off-Street” Configuration

Figure 2-6: "Off-Street" configuration for bike lane along Owens Drive with circulation option A-1.
Figure 2-7: "Off-Street" configuration for bike lane along Owens Drive with circulation option A-2.
This configuration creates a protected bike lane by placing the bicycle lane between the
sidewalk and drop-off zones. This layout provides separation between bicycle and vehicle
traffic. In this configuration, passengers would be dropped off curbside with a drop-off lane
