Local Revenue Measure Results November 2024 – 16 – December 6, 2024 Final CaliforniaCityFinance.com Business Operations Taxes  Thirteen cities proposed general revisions and updates of their business operations taxes. Berkeley and Santa Cruz voters approved taxes on sugary beverages. These are majority vote general purpose taxes. The City of Albany proposed a tax on the business of renting residential property with a tax rate of 0.36% of gross receipts for renting four or fewer units and 1% of gross receipts for renting five or more units. Proceeds were to be dedicated “to fund local tenant rental assistance programs, residential rental code enforcement, legal assistance for tenants and landlords, and to support rental providers to avoid financial hardship.” The measure failed. San Francisco voters approved initiative Measure L, a tax on transportation network companies and autonomous vehicle businesses with the tax revenue dedicated to public transportation.
