Item #4
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT

June 2, 2026
Library and Recreation

TITLE: APPROVE ANNUAL STREET CLOSURES FOR 2026

SUMMARY
This report identifies community parades and special events that require temporary street
closures and parking restrictions for the 2026 calendar year.

RECOMMENDATION
Approve annual street closures for 2026.

BACKGROUND
During 2026, 22 special events are anticipated which will require street closures or parking
restrictions. The number of street closures will be increased by seven (7) from 2025.

DISCUSSION
If approval is granted for the stated events (Attachment 1), staff will continue to work with the
Special Event Committee (consisting of staff from various city departments) to process all
event applications. Event organizers are required to submit a special event application, an
insurance policy to indemnify the City from liability associated with the event, and detailed
information about the operation of the event. To date, 20 of the anticipated 22 events have
already submitted their special event applications.

The Special Event Committee will ensure event organizers effectively manage community
notifications of potential event impacts and associated roadway closures.

As with previous street closures, prior to each event, the Police Chief will declare that an
unusual condition exists, thereby allowing city streets to be temporarily closed and authorizing
parking controls on affected streets to be enforced.

EQUITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
Not applicable, as this item is a routine matter of City business.

OUTREACH
Not applicable, as this item is a routine matter of City business.

STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT
This action supports the ONE Pleasanton strategic plan goal of Building a Community Where
Everyone Belongs to foster community engagement and conduct effective planning to promote
a livable and economically vibrant community.

FISCAL IMPACT
