CITY OF PLEASANTON – INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT v2.5
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY – 3 RD PARTY ACCESS
3.Use of Private Connections: Employees and contractors can use privately owned
internet connections (e.g., home Wi-Fi, personal mobile hotspots) for business-related
activities. It is important to note that while COP ITD will endeavor to ensure the
security of approved private connections, the department cannot provide technical
support for third-party Internet Service Provider (ISP) issues.
4.Responsibility and Compliance: Misuse or negligent use of remote access
privileges may result in revocation of remote access.
4.3 Appropriate Use
COP ITD emphasizes the importance of security and responsible conduct for all ITSCs
granted remote access privileges. To uphold the integrity of our systems and data, the
following enhanced guidelines must be strictly followed:
1.Secure Remote Access Procedures: ITSCs must utilize secure remote access
methods, adhering to COP’s robust password policy. This includes the use of
public/private key encryption and strong passwords. ITSCs must keep their passwords
confidential, ensuring they are not shared with anyone, including family members,
when working from home.
2.MFA: Access to COP systems via remote connections must be secured with two-
factor authentication to provide an additional layer of security beyond just a password.
3.Access Control: ITSCs will be granted access solely to resources essential for their
specific duties. This principle of least privilege ensures minimal risk exposure.]
4.Device Security: All devices, whether personal or company-owned, used in the
context of remote work must be protected by reasonable physical security measures.
This includes but is not limited to, the installation and regular updating of antivirus
software to maintain optimal IT security.
5.Public Wi-Fi Security: When using public Wi-Fi hotspots, ITSCs must deploy a
personal firewall and VPN alongside any other security measures required by the IT
department.
6.Unauthorized Modifications: ITSCs are prohibited from modifying the remote access
setup without explicit approval from COP ITD.
7.Network Exclusivity: While connected to COP’s network, ITSCs’ devices must not be
simultaneously connected to any other network except for necessary internet
connectivity.
Docusign Envelope ID: 4B3DD47E-7332-8163-807C-64B627C64358
