2026 PLEASANTON BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN MASTER PLAN | 73
SUPPORT PROGRAMS
MAPS AND BROCHURES:
• Annual Bicycle Safety Brochure: Published annually, this resource pro-
vides residents with safety tips, dates for upcoming city-sponsored bike
events, and an updated map of local bicycle facilities.
• Traffic Engineering Informational Bulletins: The City’s Traffic Engineering
Division hosts an array of online informational brochures covering every-
thing from walking safety tips to guidance on localized traffic control de-
vices (e.g., Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons, roundabouts, and traffic
calming treatments).
Program Opportunities
• ED-1: School Workshops on Emerging Infrastructure Treatments. Part-
ner with PUSD to deliver campus-based workshops ahead of peak spring/
summer riding seasons. Produce localized digital content and short infor-
mational videos explaining emerging infrastructure treatments (such as
protected intersections and bike-only signals).
• ED-2: Senior Center Active Living Workshops. Coordinate with the Pleas-
anton Senior Center to host quarterly community workshops, structured
walking audits, and feedback surveys. Participants will learn to safely navi-
gate newer infrastructure treatments (e.g., modern roundabouts and Rect-
angular Rapid Flashing Beacons [RRFBs]).
• ED-3: Targeted Safe Roadway Behavior Messaging. Develop targeted
messaging that addresses critical conflict behaviors, such as driver yield -
ing at crosswalks, sidewalk encroachment on commercial corridors, and
safe passing distances.
• ED-4: Smart Cycling Curriculum. Establish a recurring curriculum covering
advanced bike handling skills, urban route planning, routine bicycle mainte-
nance, theft prevention, and night-riding safety tactics.
• ED-5: Pop-Up Outreach & Community Campaigns. Distribute the educa-
tional resources described above during pop-up open houses at high-visi-
bility community events, open streets programs, and broadly via city social
media channels, print media, transit advertising, and localized digital plat-
forms.
