Original Message ....
From: Jill Schulze
To: H~ng~bo!~; jwo!fe@ci.p!ea~gn~on~gg,us
Sent: Friday, April 08, 2005 9:33 PM
Subject: Lighted sports fields

Dear sir or madam:

We are writing to urge you to please commit to lighted sports fields at the Bernal property. We have three
sons, ages 11, 8, and 3 and the quality of the parks and recreation was one reason we were so attracted to
the city of Pleasanton (excellent schools being of the utmost importance). The Bernal property provides
the city with an opportunity to give these kids more lighted fields, which they truly need. Our two older
sons play baseball (Pony and Little League) and we are constantly struggling with field placement and
practice fields to play on. It seems as if every field is spoken for every available slot during the day. The
other day my boys wanted to practice running the bases while I timed them (a good use of their time, not to
mention good exercise) yet there was nowhere we could do that; all fields had games going on. It was
pretty sad the think that we couldn't just go to a park and throw the ball around; what do the other kids do
when they want to throw a baseball with Dad?

As for the declining school enrollment and the "reduced need" for lighted fields, I can tell you that reduced
enrollment is a pendulum that swings one way, then the other. There may be a slight decline on incoming
kindergarteners, but as an active mother in the preschool community, let me tell you there are a lot of
toddlers and preschoolers, (future baseball players) coming your way. Let's look long term, and consider
the health and well being of our kids. I am sure you have seen the alarming obesity rates among children;
sports is an excellent way to combat couch potato syndrome.

Please consider the request for lighted fields. They would be a huge benefit to all of Pleasanton.

Thank you for your consideration on these issues.

The Schulze Family (Jill and Peter, Brian, Matthew, and Andy)
417-7504

The information in this email is confidential and may be legally
privileged.
It is intended solely for the addressee.
