ATTACHMENT 5

pLEASANTONo

MEMORANDUM

Date:

July 12,2006

To:

Planning Commission

From:

Janice Stern, Principal Planner

Subject:

Revisions to Draft Conservation and Open Space Element

As requested, attached is a redlined revision of the Draft Conservation and Open Space Element.
Changes have been made in response to Planning Commissioners comments at the May 24th,
2006, Planning Commission meeting. Following the Planning Commission's review, staffwill
schedule the Draft Conservation and Open Space Element for City Council review. If the
Commission does not request further amendments to the Draft Element by July 24, 2006, the
Draft Element will be moved forward to the City Council.

The following summarizes Planning Commissioners' comments, and changes (if any) that have
been made in the Draft Conservation and Open Space Element in response to those comments:

. In reference to p. VII-2, regarding mammals found in the Planning Area, a Commissioner
noted that mountain lions have been seen in developed areas of Pleasant on. Text has
been added to p. VII-2 to reflect this.

. In reference to p. VIII-8 "Riparian Corridor," a Commissioner asked why no reference is
made to Arroyo Las Positas which flows through the Staples Ranch area. No reference is
made to Arroyo Las Positas because within the Pleasanton Planning Area (west of EI
Charro Road) it becomes Arroyo Mocha.

. In reference to p. VII-II, regarding the monitoring of diazinon, a Commissioner
requested that the language regarding monitoring be made stronger. The text has been
amended to say that monitoring "should be performed. "

. In reference to the discussion of water quality on p. VII-II, a Commissioner requested
language related to improving the taste of water and language related to well water. Staff
points out that water taste, odor and hardness, and the well water supply are all issues
addressed in the Draft Public Facilities and Community Programs Element.

General Plan Update

Planning Commission

Page I of4
