ATTACHMENT 22

pLEASANTONe
MEMORANDUM

Date:

March 24th, 2006

To:

Marion Pavan, Plarming Department

From:

D.C. Spiller, Police Captain - Investigations & Services

Subject:

CAMERON AVENUE SInEW ALK and ACCESS

In the wake of our continued conversations on the subject of the access and walkway design of the
Cameron Avenue area, it is the recommendation of the Pleasanton Police Department that a sidewalk in
full public view, with no barriers or obstruction to visibility be designed and constructed. From the
perspective of effectively policing such an area with full consideration of issues of Crime Prevention
Through Environmental Design (CPTED), an enclosed or obstructed walkway would tend to encourage
acts of vandalism, drinking, etc., thereby increasing the risk to public safety via the decreased visibility
inherent to such a design.

Please feel free to continue to liaison with rne or my staff at anytime as this project continues, but it is
my hope that this memorandum will effectively memorialize our position as it relates public safety
concerns we have discussed.

C: Sergeant Laurence I Detective Tamm (YCSB / Crime Prevention)
