It includes a garage design that is essentially as wide as
his lot and 20 feet (or two stories) high. I know of no one in the neighborhood that has a three car garage, and
he wants such a garage on one of the narrower lots on the street Its design also endangers a heritage tree that
is in Grace Lutman's yard next door.

The house he proposes is essentially a three story structure, again on a very narrow lot It's way too big and too
high for the lot At one point during this process, Dustin was instructed to put up "story poles" so the neighbors
could get a feel for the size structure he was proposing, He never did do this.
Perhaps he knew that doing so would have made it obvious how enormous a structure he intended to build.

At one point in this process, the neighbors were told by Planning Staff, "Don't worry, his project is way too big
and he'll have to scale it down substantially or it'll never be approved", Now, however, staff is saying that it will
probably be approved by Staff and sent on to the Planning Commission and if the neighbors oppose it they'll
have to appeal to the Commission. It seems to me this is an abrogation of the staff's duty. A project that is, in
Staff's own words, way too big in scale ought to be brought under control before it gets to the Commission
level.

We, the neighbors on second St and in the Old Town area, would like to see our City Planning Staff working to
preserve the character of our older neighborhoods, not "pushing projects through" that are out of character.

Sincerely, Brian and Christine Bourg
4512 Second St

9/20/2006
