I would like to provide you an update on the progress or lack there of since your workshop on the issue
on September 13~h, 2006.
At the September 13~h meeting, a number of neighbors, myself included, addressed the commission regarding our
concerns over the potential traffic impact the proposed design would have on the neighborhood.
The commissioners, in workshop, requested that staff and the church go back and look at a number of possible
alternatives to address the neighborhoods concerns. These included: 1. closing the Golden Road exit, 2.
connecting the Del Valle Parkway and Golden parking lots, 3. Modifying the size of the building, 4. Repositioning
the building, 5. Creating a Hopyard driveway.
Following the workshop, there have been two meeting between the church and the neighbors (that I'm aware of).
The first one included City Staff. Sadly, I need to report that both meetings failed to produce any meaningful
discussion on the topics suggested by the commissioners at the workshop. The attached email "Re: Thank you"
was the email exchange after the first meeting. After receiving an invitation to a second meeting with the Church
("Trinity Follow-up #3), I attended the meeting cautiously optimistic that we could make progress on our traffic
concerns. Unfortunately, the invitation email was all hype as the meeting quickly reverted to discussing the
current plan- no changes or modifications.
The neighbors have tried to work with the church. We have shared our concerns, our presentations, and our
comments. I asked the church for copies of their presentations, video tapes of the public meetings, and I have
received nothing. We are not opposed to the pre-school, but we are very concerned with the potential 280%+
increase in traffic through our neighborhood.
I would like to point out that maps the city has provided of the Hopyard/Golden Road intersection are incorrect.
The map, including the map on the back of the Notice of Public Hearing, are of the old street configuration before
Hopyard was reconfigured some years back creating a frontage road that parallels Hopyard. The current
configuration makes the Hopyard/Golden intersection a very complex intersection with no traffic control.
Since the Church has failed to adequately address the traffic concerns of the neighborhood, I respectfully request
that the Planning Commission deny Trinity Lutheran Church's application (PCUP-155/PDR-513).
Sincerely,
Mike Serrano
4835 Golden Rd.
3/13/2007
