It seems to me that the town of Pleasanton is facing a real
dilemma in terms of planning. Yes, there is a traffic gridlock problem, and yes there is opposition to other ideas to
reduce traffic running through our town, but this idea makes no sense at all. I would like to list some of the
reasons why I oppose this project.
1. Pleasanton has always been very astute in building high-traffic commercial developments on the periphery
of its residential core. Such as the Stoneridge Mall, the Wal-Mart shopping center and the existing Home
Depot.
2. This proposal will draw a high volume of traffic from the edge of the city right through the middle of our
interior neighborhoods.
3. This one corner has already a traffic problem with people trying to get to Livermore or Ruby Hills or trying
to get onto 580 via a shortcut. More and more people live east of us in towns like Tracy and Brentwood due
to unaffordable housing in Pleasanton. They already cut through residential areas to get there.
4. In this area many smaller developments have recently been built but they do not increase the amount of
traffic like a big Home Depot would.
5. This area is marked commercial but only for a few blocks before it becomes residential.
6. Rational ideas need to be discussed before turning this nice community into a place that will no longer
have a reputation of being a great place to live, great schools and a wonderful town to bring up your
children.
7. I am not one of those people who believe in "Not in my Backyard". I realize this is a difficult situation and
many other areas have complained regarding solutions to traffic problems. Yet there has to be something
that can be done without ruining the charm and the wonderful places to live in the historical town of
Pleasanton.
Sincerely, Nicki Bartels
~/ 1O/2(107
