From: Heidi Massie~,~,
Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2007 8:18 AM
To: Jennifer Hosterman
Cc: Nancy; Cindy McGovern
Subject: No on Home Depot; 5/15 meeting
Jennifer,
I completely agree with Nancy Allen (her note is below) with regards to Dome Depot [t
reflects the concerns of the neighborhoods in surrounding areas. (have a record of
etnails we collected of residents who are opposed to this project simply because of the
location.
I'm not against E Lome Depot as a company - I'm a stockholder. But it's the location of the
store [take issue with. "Che truck traffic is what concerns me the most. Regency
developer reps Don McKenzie and Pete Knoelder contirmed the number of truck that are
expected to deliver to Home Depot everyday. And they admitted that they can only
control the driving routes of HD-owned trucks, not trucks of all other vendors with which
f[D deals. Not to mention all the trucks from contractors that will visit Home Depot.
I Ieck, trucks are such a problem now on Valley between Stanley and Santa Rita, [can't
imagine how bad it will get. The "no trucks over 3 tons" signs that have been recently
placed all along Valley are totally ignored. Why, just this morning while having
breakfast at 7:30, suddenly my windows began to vibrate, my coffee cup shook and the
skillet on my stove rattled. [looked out my window and saw a semi (a 2-trailer one) that
was stopped at the Kolln/Valley light, all the while spewing black smoke into my
backyard. This is a daily occurance. Saturday mornings it starts around 6:30 while a
parade of Pleasanton Ready-Mix cement trucks pass by at 10-minute intervals for about 2
hours. (Yes I've tracked it on several occasions).
I'd be much happier with a grocery store (Raley's maybe) rather than HD. A grocery store
is badly needed for the Vineyard/Vintage Hills neighborhood. But Don McKenzie will
tell you that grocery stores bring in much more traffic. Actually, [suspect the issue is that
grocers don't have the deep pockets that HD does. [also would suspect that the truck
traffic would be less and of a less heavier load (no propane trucks!).
Of course, safety is an issue as well. Just this morning, our poor crossing guard Jason was
almost hi[ by a big pickup truck as he led about 6 kids and 2 moms across Valley at
Kolln. The truck turning right off Kolln on to Valley didn't even stop. 3 more cars did
the same soon after, Jason said. He and his boss have tried for 2 years to get cycle police
to sit at that corner in the mornings and afternoons to catch these offenders and red light
runners. [have yet to see a policeman.
"Chose are my issues with the project. Though the Regency reps have been nothing but
helpful and friendly, I've told them what [take issue with is the location.
['hanks for listening.
