,...
~-,
d. RZ-69-7, George Oakes
Application to rezone from a RM-2500 (Multiple Family) District, allowing 2500 eq.ft.
of land per unit, to an RM-1500 (Multiple Family) District, allowing 1500 sq.ft. of
land per unit, that area described ae Parcel 118 of Fairlanda Tract #2639, Unit #3,
located on the west aide of Fairlanda Drive and due north of Weet Lae Poaitas,
containing approximately 4.9 acres.
Chairman Plato opened the Public Rearing. Planning Director Castro explained the
staff report. He also wanted to point out that only a portion of Tract #2639
comprising approximately 2 acres is being applied for under this application.
Mr. George Oakes was present and spoke is support of she development as proposed.
He stated that this area had been zoned for multiple since the very beginning. He
indicated he was permitted an overall density of 1218 unite. That there was still
200 unite as yet not specifically designated. In summary, he feels that the develop-
ment will be a credit to the neighborhood and blend in perfectly with the entire area.
There was considerable opposition to this application by residents in the area, as
follows:
Mrs. Sharon Mure - 3541 Churchill Court
This lady took exception to the multiple density, as she thought it was to be a
park or an open field. Stated she would not have bought a home there had she
known multiples were going in.
Mra. Nancy Woodard - 4164 Suffolk Wav
Felt that the multiple development would cause them to move out.
Mr. Leo Pruett - 4174 Fairlanda Drive
Opposed the development.
Mra. Joan Whitehead - 3126 Montpelier Court
Felt the developer should take the feelings of existing neighbors into consideration
before putting in further developments.
Mr. Tom Kceville - 3534 Churchill Court
This man had an option to buy a bigger lot close to the road. Personally feels
he has been cheated. Inquired about the use of the Cabana Club for the apartment
dweller. Mr. Oakes replied that that the Cabana Club was strictly for the use
of the single-family homes.
Mr. Dick Jackson - 3291 Balmoral Court
Opposed to the development. Feels it should not be rezoned to higher density
to bring in still more people.
Mr. Bob Pearson - 2639 Churchill Court
Feels this development will open the door for more RM developments.
Colonel Peterson - 4111 Suffolk Wav
Feels deceit has been practiced. Opposes the development.
The Commissioners attempted to explain to the persona in opposition that the area had
always been zoned for the multiple, and basically, the application before them was
the concept only, that it was a question of rezoning from the RG-25 to the RG-15.
Chairman Plato felt this was a public relations sort of thing between the developer
and the prospective homeowners as far as advising a buyer about the types of
developments that will be built in the surrounding area. This is strictly a question
of ethics between those two groups and the Planning Commission has no responsibility
in this matter.
Upon motion of Commissioner Arnold, seconded by Commissioner Garrlgan, and carried,
the Public Hearing was closed.
- 11 -
