235

Mr. Tarver indicated that he supported the short term
solutions and the citizens' concern to preserve safety and the
quality of life while building the City. He continued that the
extension of Valley Avenue and Sunol Blvd. could provide an
alternate route for those getting out of the City.

Mr. Mercer stated that extending Valley Avenue and Sunol
Blvd. might not help Division Street as Bernal Avenue would be a
more direct route to the freeway.

Ms. Mohr commended the report. She added that the Valley
Avenue and Sunol Blvd. extensions would help people from the Happy
Valley loop going towards Hopyard Road. She then asked the staff
if paving Rose Avenue from Fair Street to Pleasanton Avenue was
included in the CIP Budget for the second or third year.

Mr. van Gelder replied that the Rose Avenue proposal is only
an information study for the Council's and the community's
review.

Mr. Butler stated that he supported having stop signs on all
intersections along Division and St. Mary Streets except Fair
Street as this was too close to Del Valle Parkway.

It was moved by Mr. Mercer, and seconded by Mr. Butler that
Resolution 89-359 be adopted, approving a feasibility study of the
long range solutions and the implementation of the short range
solutions, but eliminating the stop sign on Division Street and
Fair Street, and the installation of directional signs to the
Fairgrounds on Hopyard Road and 1-680.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Tarver and Mayor
Mercer
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Item 7b
Actions Taken by the Design Review Board at its Meeting of
7-26-89

This item was removed from the Agenda.

Item 7c-d
Actions of the Board of Adjustment, Design Review Board and
Planning Commission at the Meetings of 8-9-89, and Actions of the
Design Review Board Work Session at their Meeting of 2-2-89

Mr. Swift presented his report (IR 89:61) regarding the
matter.

No action was required or taken by the Council on this item.

-20-

8-15-89
