Under terms of contracts between Zone 7 and its retail
water suppliers, each retail water supplier may produce a fixed
amount of groundwater for use in its service areas independent
of Zone 7. The aggregate annual independent quota of Zone
major retail water suppliers, which total 6,600 acre-feet, is
as follows: City of Pleasanton (maximum of 3,500 acre-feet);
California Water Company (3,067 acre-feet); and City of
Livermore and Dublin San Ramon Services District (33 acre-feet).

The tabulation below shows water production and use from
City wells and Zone 7 purchases. Over the ten-year period 1977
through 1986, total water production and use increased at an
annual rate of approximately 7.9%. These data also show for
the most recent five-year period, 1982 through 1986, that the
annual rate of growth was approximately 12.4%. A comparison of
total water production and use for the first six months of 1987
(1,814 million gallons ["MG"]) to the first six months of 1986
(1,581.6 MG) indicates an increase of 14.7% in water production
and use.

City of Pleasanton

Water Production and Use
(Millions Gallons)

Zone 7 Million
Year City Wells Purchases Total Gallons/Day
1977 886 997 1,883 5 16
1978 924 1,140 2,064 5 65
1979 994 1,165 2,159 5 92
1980 1,043 1,209 2,252 6 17
1981 1,057 1,361 2,418 6 63
1982 1,144 1,197 2,341 6 41
1983 1,157 1,361 2,518 6 90
1984 1,122 2,117 3,239 8 87
1985 1,141 2,412 3,553 9 73
1986 1,150.2 2,580.2 3,730.4 10 22*
1987' 546.1 1,267.9 1,814 10 02*

* January 1 through June 30, 1987. A long range forecast of
future water demand and supply to the year 2010 was completed
by Zone 7 staff in 1987. Current water demands in 1987 are
estimated at 30,000 acre-feet.
