2. Where the underside of roof sheathing or the floor above is less than fourteen feet
(14') feet to the finished floor and the building is for commercial office space, a sprinkler
design of light hazard, or 0.10 gallons per minute over the most hydraulically remote
3,000 square feet is required. Fire sprinkler design shall incorporate provisions for two
future tenant improvement sprinkler drops below the ceiling.
3. Where the underside of roof sheathing is fourteen feet or less to the finished floor
and hazardous materials are not stored or used in quantities that exceed California
Building Code, Table 307.1(1), a sprinkler design of ordinary hazard, Group II, with a
minimum remote design area of 3,000 square feet (0.18 gallons per minute per square
foot over the most remote 3,000 square feet) is required.
4. Where the underside of roof sheathing exceeds 14' and does not exceed 24' to the
finished floor, a sprinkler design of 0.45 gallons per minute calculated over the
hydraulically most remote 3,000 square feet, with a maximum coverage of 100 square
feet per sprinkler is required. A 500 gallon per minute allowance for hose streams shall
also be provided.
5. Where the underside of roof sheathing is 24' feet or more to the finished floor, a
sprinkler design of .60 gallons per minute calculated over the hydraulically most remote
3,000 square feet, with a maximum sprinkler spacing of ten by ten feet (10'X10') or
eight by twelve feet (8'X12'). A 500 gallon per minute allowance for hose streams shall
also be provided.
Where specific hazards known at the time of original construction require higher
densities than required per above items 2, 3, 4, or 5 the higher densities shall be
provided based on nationally recognized standards.
20.24.120 CFC Section 903.3.1 Badded -NFPA 13 sprinkler systems.
CFC Section 903.3.1 B is added.
903.3.1 B
A minimum design area of 3,000 square feet shall be required for all
industrial/commercial sprinkler systems (NFPA 13). Where subsequent occupancy
requires a sprinkler system of greater design density or area of application capability, it
shall be the responsibility of the owner and/or occupant to retrofit the sprinkler system
to the required code or standard in order to obtain clearance for the new occupancy or
use.
20.24.130 CFC Section 903.3.1 Cadded -Installation of Fire Sprinkler Systems.
CFC Section 903.3.1 C is added.
Section 903.3.1 C
Fire sprinkler protection shall be provided in all combustible and non-combustible
concealed spaces.
gs
