additional fields that aze proposed for Bernal Community Park. He has issues with the lights at Upper
Bernal being left on and neighbors having no way to turn them off.
Shashi, 530 Abbie Street -agreed with comments made by Mr. Wolfe and those of his neighbors. He felt
that he would be most affected by the changes being proposed for Upper Bernal Field because of his
home's close proximity to the park. His major concern includes additional traffic, lights being left on, and
increased use of the pazk that would affect the neighborhood.
Mohammed Nawaz. 550 Abbie Street -indicated he was happy with all of the parks in Pleasanton and
liked living close to Upper Bernal, where neighborhood children can play. He agreed with the comments
made by some of his neighbors and those by Mr. Wolfe, and felt the park should be left for neighborhood
use and concentrate on all-weather fields at Bernal Community Pazk. Mr. Nawaz suggested that
consideration be given to making upgrades to the play azea at Upper Bernal.
Michael Herman, 440 Abbie Street -agreed with comments made by all of his neighbors. Mr. Herman
would like for Upper Bernal Pazk to continue to have a neighborhood character, since it is a pazk that
serves the immediate community. He felt that the proposed changes would take that aspect away and
leave the community needing to cross busy First Street to go to Delucchi Park.
Connie Ouintanal, 621 Abbie Street -also agreed with the comments of other people from the
neighborhood, and was concerned about added traffic and noise levels that would take place should
proposed improvements be made. She discussed the use of Upper Bernal by local neighbors, and would
hate to see any changes that would require neighbors to have to travel to other parks. Ms. Quintanal
indicated that she would like to heaz comments from those people lobbying to have the field changed. She
was not so concerned about drainage issues at this pazk, but asked the Commission to carefully consider
the comments and opinions of the neighborhood.
Bridget Moe, 4866 Cobbler Court -does not want to see changes made to Upper Bernal that would
change it from a grass sport field. Ms. Moe suggested that the City consider other improvements for this
area, such as an added play azea and a swimming pool.
Fran Glavin. 609 Abbie Court - advised that she has lived in the vicinity of Upper Bernal Field for a very
long time, and would like the field to remain as it is. She agreed that there are some problems at this
location, but does not want to have use of this pazk taken away from the neighbors. Ms. Glavin was also
concerned about increasing traffic in the azea because of additional use by sports groups.
HemyLoll, 4788 Peaceful Lane -would like for the park to remain as it is.
Jane Bielke-Loll. 4788 Peaceful Lane -felt that cazeful consideration should be given to the increase in
traffic to the azea if proposed improvements were made at Upper Bernal. Ms. Bielke-Look noted that she
and her family agree with the need for anall-weather field in Pleasanton, but don't agree that it should be
at this park. Increased noise and light use are not something they desire for this area.
Chairperson Kummer closed the meeting for public comment at 7:35 p.m.
Pazks and Recreation Commission Minutes
July 10, 2008
Page 3
