Housing Characteristics

Housing need can also be assessed by examining certain aspects of the
housing stock. The vacancy rate, housing costs, and the availability
of suitable residential land will all indicate the type and magnitude
of housing need and whether the City of Pleasanton can actually begin
to meet that need. These housing characteristics and others are

presented in Tables 7 through 13.

TABLE 7

PLEASANTON
IIOUSING UNITS: 1960-1979

1960 1970 1975 1979 1980
1,230 5,524 9,763 11,158 11,317
3.19 3.32 3.24 3.08 3.10
1,035 4,837 7,882 8,993 9,161
84% 88% 81% 80% 81%
195 649 1,449 1,733 1,743
20%2 12% 15% 16% 15%
49 82 432 449 444
4 1%3 4% 4% 4%

Total Occupied
Housing Units

Persons per
Housing Unit

Single family
Housing Units1

Percent Single-
family

Multi-family
Housing Units

Percent Multi-
family

Mobile Homes
and Other

Percent Mobile
Homes and Other

1Single-family Housing includes detached single-
family homes, and certain townhouses
2Includes mobile homes
3percentages do not add up to 100% due to rounding error
4Figure not available due to incomplete data

Sources:
U.
