For 2008, the City had a
61 percent diversion rate. Based on 2008 disposal
data, to achieve a 75 percent diversion rate, the
City will have to reduce disposal levels by 19,189
tons to 72,748 tons.
In 2008, PGS collected 5,272 tons from the
residential curbside recycling program. In 2008,
PGS collected 11,482 tons of yard and food
waste from the residential organics program.
With the newly implemented curbside recycling
and yardwasre cart -based programs, the City
envisions significant increases in diversion from
these programs (i.e., 15 to 19 percent).
The objective of Study 2 is to determine
whether the City is properly capturing all of the
diversion activities within the City, and if not, to
2004
Ye
2005
2006
3007
— rum Dbpaul — R.0den0.l oapo
8<,ideMiel R,cy,uI,q — le.Wmhl Or
2008
identify methods to better capture diversion.
Successful completion of Study 2 will help ensure
that the City is getting full credit for their
diversion activities. This is especially important
today, given the recent improvements to the City's
residential and commercial recycling programs.
In conducting Study 2, NewPoint Group will
again rely on a combination of data review and
in- person interviews to obtain the most accurate
representation of City diversion and recycling
efforts. NewPoint Group team members have
extensive recycling and measurement experience
that we will draw on to help identify improvements
to existing reporting that will more accurately
capture recycling activities within the City.
NewPoint Group 2 -
