Project Costs
The Projects that constitute the components of the Living Arroyos Program, Workplan 2017-
2018,are identified on the first page of the Workplan. The hard costs of materials and
equipment needed to undertake each Project are defined as Project Costs. Program Partners are
responsible for their own Project Costs.
Program Costs
Program Costs are expenses for administering Workplan activities and for labor needed to
administrate and carry out individual Projects.Such activities include, but are not limited to,
program administration,planting,weeding,watering,monitoring,debris removal,pruning,
invasive management,materials,rentals,equipment,travel,training, and volunteer coordination
activities.
As part of the Workplan's Program Costs, the Program Partners may authorize specialized
training or conferences for the Program Coordinator as the need arises.Work will be performed
by Living Arroyos staff and interns. Itemized costs for work performed on behalf of the
Program Partners will be invoiced by the Implementing Agency(LARPD)to the Fiscal Manager
(Zone 7).
Examples of Project vs. Program Costs
As an example of the difference between a Project and a Program Costs, plantings(container
plants)are a Project Cost;however, the collection and planting of acorns would be a Program
Cost because the major expense planting acorns involves labor while the monetary value of
individual acorns collected from local trees is undefined.Table 2 presents a further illustration of
the difference between Project and Program Costs.
Table 2.Program Costs vs.Project Costs
•P_rograin Costs) Pr ject Costs,
• Program Coordinator salary and benefits •Any elements that remain with
• Intern stipends the project site,e.g. irrigation
• Purchase or rental of equipment that can be used for systems, signage, plants, planting
multiple projects; equipment storage;and consumable supplies such as tree cages, etc.
supplies related to the volunteer and/or intern programs •Contractors engaged to carry out
• Travel,trainings and other miscellaneous expenses project-specific tasks,e.g.
directly related to the Program hydroseeding, installation of
• Communication activities and elements to ensure irrigation systems, etc.
consistent messaging among Partners and to the public •Any other project specific costs
requested by the Program Partner
gram
Costs and are responsible for their respective Project Costs, defined below.
The Fiscal Year runs from July 1 through June 30.
