ATTACHMENT 2: PUBLIC COMMENTS
exists to connect those two using the newly created street in the District across Main
to the trail.]
o Provide bicycle boulevard treatment on Angela from Pleasanton Ave to Bernal.
o Evaluate traffic circle or all-way stop control at the intersection of Angela and
Pleasanton Avenue to facilitate bicycle turning movements and pedestrian access to the
ACE Station and Downtown.
[the new road and parking structure in the Town Square District would provide better
access to Downtown than Angela. Proceed or wait for public vote on new Civic
Center?]
• Improving pedestrian safety and visibility at existing crosswalks in Downtown
• Providing continuous sidewalks near the ACE Station and Pleasanton Library
Arroyo Del Valle
• Study feasibility of paving trail, providing trail access points and connections, and extending the
existing trail east to the Iron Horse Trail and Shadow Cliffs. Study opportunity for a bridge
between Arroyo Del Valle Trail and Downtown.
[this bridge is a trail connection, perhaps near the end of St.John, not off the Transportation
Corridor. Suggest the DSP add this feasibility study.]
Sunol Boulevard
• Upgrading the existing bicycle lanes to provide a more comfortable, continuous, north to south
bikeway for experienced riders
[although this is outside of the Downtown area, providing a southern gateway would benefit
from collaboration.]
• Improving bicycle and pedestrian access to Pleasanton Middle School,Village High School,
Hearst Elementary School,Centennial Park, and Downtown
[these are safe routes to school;safe crossing of Bernal from schools into the Town Square
District is a high priority,as is the location of the library.]
• Addressing the large slip lane on the southwest corner of Bernal Avenue/Sunol Boulevard
intersection that creates a barrier to bicycling
• Addressing the need to improve existing bicycle lanes on Sunol Boulevard near the First
Street/Bernal Avenue intersection
[a lot of interest and potential money is under consideration for routes from Castlewood,
under 1-680 and all the way to Downtown. There are now many more Pleasanton residents
living on that side of town and using Sunol Boulevard to get into and through Downtown
making it less safe for pedestrians and cyclists and probably not safe for all ages and abilities.
Also, many cyclists visit Pleasanton from Fremont and use this route.]
Check to see if bike-share options would be allowed or not. (Brief reference to monitoring technology...)
I think the City, and Downtown specifically, need a policy about these(including scooters,Segways, and
anything else that falls until the personal rental transportation category).
MP-G.2"connect the network... walking, biking and transit" including"complete streets"—please add
"for all ages and abilities"somewhere.
7
