1-01 <br /> <br />1.02 <br /> <br />SECTION 1 <br />GENERAL <br /> <br />Definitions: Wherever in these specifications the following terms, or <br />pronouns in place of them are used, the intent and meaning shall be as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Engineer: "Engineer" shall mean the City Engineer of the City of <br />Pleasanton, acting either directly or through properly authorized <br />agents acting within the scope of the particular duties delegated <br />to them. <br /> <br /> City. "City" shall mean the City of Pleasanton. <br /> Contractor. "Contractor" shall mean any person, persons, <br /> 'co-partnership, corporation or other legal entity who have entered <br /> into a contract either with the City or with other third party to <br /> construct public improvements within the City or to be ultimately <br /> maintained by the City. <br /> <br /> Standard Drawings: Shall mean those of the Alameda County Flood <br /> Control and Water Conservation District. <br /> ASTM Standard Specifications: Whenever reference is made in these <br /> specifications to ASTM Standard Specifications, the reference <br /> shall be construed to mean the American Society for Testing <br /> Materials Standard Specifications as of the date shown, with <br /> subsequent amendments'thereto. <br /> <br />References to Other Specifications: Wherever in these specifications or <br />on the plans reference is made to the State of California Standard <br />Specifications or to the Standard Specifications, it shall mean the <br />STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, DEPARTMENT OF <br />TRANSPORTATION, current edition as modified by these standards. <br />In case of conflict between the Standard Specifications and these <br />specifications, these specifications shall take precedence over and <br />shall be used in lieu of such conflicting portions of the Standard <br />Specifications. <br />Any item not covered in these specifications shall be performed in <br />accordance with the appropriate section of the Standard Specifications. <br /> Whenever in the Standard Specifications the following terms are used, <br /> they shall be understood to mean and refer to the following: <br /> <br /> a. Department of Public Works, or Division of Transportation, shall <br /> mean the Department of Public Works of the City of Pleasanton. <br /> <br />b.
