According to the 1998 HVSP FEIR, the Verona
Fault trends southeast-northwest through the eastern portion of the project site. The Verona Fault is
approximately 5 miles long and is considered capable of generating a magnitude 6.3 earthquake.22
Structures and constructed slopes placed across the fault could be damaged by fault displacement.
According to the 1998 HVSP FEIR, the potential impacts associated with fault rupture can be
mitigated through preparation, review, and approval of a geologic report, consistent with MM H7.
The 1998 HVSP FEIR concluded that impacts related to the potential for damage resulting from fault
rupture was less than significant with implementation of the required mitigation.
The project site is located within a State of California Earthquake Fault Hazard Zone for the Verona
Fault, which crosses the site adjacent to the 25 percent slope limit. Several other faults, including the
Calaveras Fa ult and Las Positas Fault , are located approximately 2 miles southwest and 4 miles east
of the project site, respectively. The Greenville Fault is located approximately 10 miles to the east.
The Hayward Fault is located approximately 7 miles to the southwest. The San Andreas Fault is
located approximately 27 miles to the southwest. The project site is located in an area of high
seismicity, as is all of the San Francisco Bay Area. However, all development associated with the

22 Wesnousky, S.G., 1986, Earthquakes, Quaternary Faults, and Seismic Hazards in California, Journal of Geophysical Research, Vol. 91,
No. Bl2, pp. 12,587-12,631.
