4. Captains, who are licensed in the state and accredited in Alameda County as a
paramedic, may also bid based on rank seniority to move temporarily to the
station requiring ALS coverage due to the FF/EMT placement. This will provide
depth and back-up coverage for ALS in the Fire Engineer's absence.
Fire Captains shall receive 8%incentive pay for all hours worked as a paramedic
in the absence of the Fire Engineer. The Fire Captains will return to their
permanent bid spots upon the FF/EMT vacating the FF/PM spots
NOTE: In the event a Fire Engineer or Fire Captain are displaced from their
permanent bid spot due to the medic of rank movement, those individuals will be
administratively placed in the open spots created by the original move.
This provides(1)FF/EMT; (1)Fire Engineer(Medic); and (1)Fire Captain
(Medic) as the normal daily staffing model at this fire station. The Fire Engineer
will be the designated paramedic on normal daily basis.
5. In the event the Fire Engineer assigned to the station is absent, the position shall
be filled using the current procedures in the Staffing Policy. If the Fire Engineer
placed at the station for the shift is a paramedic from the volunteer pool, he/she
will be the designated paramedic and receive the 8% incentive for all hours
worked. Otherwise, the Fire Captain assigned to the station shall be the
designated paramedic for the shift and receive the 8%incentive for all hours
worked.
6. In the event the FF/EMT assigned to the station is absent, the position shall be
filled with a FF/PM, as this is a FF/PM position, using the current procedures in
the Staffing Policy. The Fire Engineer assigned to the station shall continue to
receive the 8% incentive pay regardless if a FF/EMT or FF/PM fills the position.
The FF/PM assigned to the station for the shift shall be the designated paramedic,
as this allows each of the crew members to perform the regular duties.
7. In the event the FF/EMT and Fire Engineer assigned to the station are absent, and
a FF/PM is assigned fill the absence, the Fire Captain shall not receive the
incentive pay, as he is not performing the duties of the paramedic.
8. FF/EMT's assigned to the station are allowed to trade and mutual with other
FF/EMT's.
9. In the event both the Fire Engineer and Fire Captain assigned to the station are
absent, the on-duty volunteer pool(defined as Fire Engineers and Fire Captains
who are willing to perform paramedic duties)will be used to place a Fire
Engineer or Fire Captain to the station to provide ALS coverage for the shift. The
Fire Engineer or Fire Captain shall receive the 8%incentive pay for all hours
worked as a paramedic. In the event there is both a Fire Engineer and Fire
Captain available from the pool, the Fire Engineer shall be awarded the
assignment based on rank seniority.
