SECTION XI (Continued)
,. E. Council and Mayor Compensation
Council and Mayor salaries are set in accordance with California Government Code, and are
specified in the Pleasanton Municipal Code. The present salaries were adopted in June,
1989.
Benefits provided to Councilmembers are set by City Resolution (Resolution No. 89-493),
and include:
• Health coverage, including dependent coverage, the full premium of which is paid by
the City,
• Limited retirement health insurance for eligible members of the Public Employees
Retirement System,
• Dental Insurance,
• Life Insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and
• Retirement as optional members of the Public Employees Retirement System.
Changes to salaries shall be in accordance with State law, and changes to benefits shall be
made by resolution, at the request of the Council.
F Reimbursement Policy and Procedures
1. Policy
Councilmembers shall be reimbursed for legitimate expenses incurred on City
business, including attendance at approved training seminars and conferences, in
accordance with existing policies as set forth in the City's reimbursement policy for
conferences, meetings, and travel, included as Appendix B.
The Council's annual budget includes normal anticipated business expenses such as
mileage reimbursement, meal expense, telephone charges and conference registration
and lodging. Historically, these expenses have been insignificant.
Each Councilmember is responsible for determining a reasonable level of expenses
within the Council budget. However, any Councilmember anticipating an
extraordinary expense beyond those described above, should notify the City Manager,
who shall in turn notify the other Councilmembers. Council may then determine
whether the annual budget supports the anticipated expense.
24
i
