19

17 to 22 inches – light olive-brown heavy silt loam; massive; very hard when dry, firm
when moist, plastic and sticky when wet; medium acid.
22+ inches – grayish-brown shale.
• PgB: Pleasanton gravelly loam, 3 to 12 percent slopes – The Pleasanton series
consists of very deep, well-drained, loamy soils. These soils formed in alluvium from
sedimentary rock. Runoff is slow to medium, and the erosion hazard is slight to
moderate. Its stratified layers consist of the following (colors are for dry soil unless
otherwise stated).
0 to 21 inches – grayish-brown gravely loam; massive or very weak granular structure;
hard when dry, friable when moist, slightly sticky and slightly plastic when wet; slightly
acid to neutral.
21 to 62 inches – dark-brown gravely clay loam; moderate subangular blocky structure;
very hard when dry, friable when moist, sticky and plastic when wet; neutral.
62 to 72 inches – yellowish-brown gravely silt loam; massive or weak blocky structure;
hard when dry, friable when moist, sticky and slightly plastic when wet; mildly alkaline.
• PoC2: Positas gravelly loam, 2 to 20 percent slopes, eroded – The Positas series
consists of well-drained to excessively drained, shallow to moderately deep gravely
loam soils. These soils formed in poorly sorted clay, sand, and gravel that are weakly
consolidated in places. This well-drained soil has a very slowly permeable subsoil.
Runoff is slow to medium, and the available water holding capacity is low. Root
penetration is shallow. The erosion hazard is slight to moderate. Its stratified layers
consist of the following (colors are for dry soil unless otherwise stated).
0 to 11 inches – brown gravely loam; massive; hard when dry, friable when moist;
medium acid.
11 to 29 inches – reddish-brown clay; strong prismatic structure; extremely hard when
dry, extremely firm when moist, very plastic and sticky when wet; medium acid in
upper part and mildly alkaline in lower part.
29 to 54 inches – brown heavy loam; strong medium, blocky structure; very hard when
dry, firm when moist, sticky and plastic when wet; moderately alkaline.
54+ inches – light yellowish-brown gravely sandy clay loam; massive; slightly hard
