Guests, from elementary school children to senior citizens, spend
an afternoon or evening with historical characters, such as Steve Jobs, Coretta Scott King,
Junko Tabei, Edith Galt Wilson, Kasturba Gandhi, and General Benjamin O. Davis Jr. The
program’s diverse characters share their stories about a wide variety of topics including
history, theater, science, art, literature, music, and politics, while the program’s unscripted
question and answer portion allow the audience to be active participants in the theater and
learning experience.
Describe the following:a. The problem(s), need(s), issue(s) or service gaps to support the
need for this project in Pleasanton. b. How your project relates to the problem, need, issue
or service gap. c. How this relates to the Cultural Plan.
The summary of the 2014 Cultural Arts Plan stated that many "Pleasanton residents often
leave the city for other arts and cultural activities, indicating the need for additional
programming in the local community." In addition, the study found that many community
members desired more arts and cultural programs with a communal aspect particularly
calling for live theater, enhanced quality, sophistication and variety of activity. They also
called for "improved downtown activities."
