More schools are now requesting assemblies than are currently funded. We urge the
commission to increase funding over past levels so that we can go to more schools.
Explain how this project will be implemented and include a brief timeline for
implementation.
Since typically schools do not plan their calendars in advance from one school year to the
next, PCO must wait for the school year to begin and then reach out to schools as soon
after in order to coordinate assembly dates and times that also fit with the musicians’
schedules. Some schools prefer fall dates while other prefer spring dates. After
coordinating the assembly dates with the musicians and the schools for assemblies,
“Discover Music” performances may take place throughout the school year. The curriculum
and theme will be determined by the Music Director in coordination with the school district.
Music will be composed (as necessary) for the quintet, and the teacher instructional
packets will be created. Communication and follow up with the schools will be ongoing.
Instructional materials will be delivered approximately two weeks before the assembly
performances to enable teachers to introduce music concepts to their students prior to the
assembly. In the meantime, musicians will rehearse the music and develop presentations.
The assemblies are interactive, and students will be asked to identify concepts, show
understanding, and participate. On the day of the assembly, musicians will arrive early
enough to ensure that set up is complete. Following the assemblies, the Music Director will
contact each school to follow up and collect the completed Teacher Feedback Survey
forms. Teachers are always encouraged to email specific questions they may have to the
Music Director. Classes often send letters and/or drawings to PCO that capture their
assembly experience. This activity helps solidify the concepts that were presented to
students while ensuring that they will retain what students have learned. This evaluation
process also assists PCO in gathering valuable input that will be reviewed for continuous
program refinement and future development.
Identify the organization(s) that your agency will partner with on this project. (A
Collaboration Agency Form is required for each collaborating agency.) Enter N/A if not
applicable.
PCO collaborates with the Pleasanton Unified School District.
Please choose a common indicator that your agency will use to measure participation.
Audience (performance)
Spectators (event)
Participants
Clients
Estimate the total number of unduplicated Pleasanton residents to be served by this
project.
