City of Pleasanton
Consulting Services - AMI Feasibility Study
9 | P a g e

Pleasanton wants to achieve (through the business drivers process) and establish priorities for water
meter and encoder replacements. Correlating these assessments will allow us to 1) determine work types
for each group of meters and 2) determine the areas that should be a priority. This functionality
assessment will be key as we move into the business driver’s assessment to understand what is
achievable.

Deliverables/Tasks:
• Meter Database and Compatibility Requirements Session - Workshop Topic
• Meter Failure Analysis
• Work type determinations including meters recommended to be maintained vs. those that should be
changed.
• Meter Revenue/Accuracy improvements as applicable.

1.2.7. Systems Assessment and System Interface Requirements
Approach: Workshop Topic - By way of a
workshop, the process begins with a review of
Pleasanton’s existing customer information
systems, work order management applications
meter reading software and customer portal
applications. Diameter’s team will map out the
City’s existing systems, and if a solution
change is deemed necessary, how the
transition and post installation systems will
look. This is typically used to start the process
of reaching out to any external integration
resources (usually the City’s existing CIS vendor), so our cost estimate is as accurate as possible. This
activity will ensure there is a clear understanding of the interface requirements.
Deliverables/Tasks:
• Existing, transition and post deployment systems and interface architecture diagram – Workshop
Topic
• Review of planned I.T. systems upgrades, if any, to ensure an AMI project could be resourced or
arranged around other system upgrades

1.2.8. Detailed Project Scope
Approach: Workshop Topic - Diameter will conduct an
AMI and water meter installation project scoping
workshop. This workshop is an important one in that the
outcomes can have a significant impact on the financial
analysis. The subject matter experts who will conduct
this session are leading professionals, each with 20
years’ experience specific to water meter installation
projects in North America. Deployment of AMI
infrastructure will involve installations which will include
the verification of the meter type, size, serial number,
and reading at the time of AMI endpoint connection. Our
experience managing water meter and AMI installation projects will allow us to walk Pleasanton’s project
Docusign Envelope ID: A02F5956-6338-44A0-AD2F-17F98C437CB8
