Page 1 of 4 Item #8 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT June 3, 2025 Information Technology TITLE: APPROVE PURCHASE OF 26 GETAC V110 G7 RUGGEDIZED LAPTOPS AND 37 TG3 KEYBOARDS FROM CODE 3 TECHNOLOGY FOR $140,306.30 TO REPLACE MOBILE DATA COMPUTERS IN THE POLICE FLEET SUMMARY The Pleasanton Police Department’s patrol vehicles rely on ruggedized Mobile Data Computers (MDCs) for critical field operations such as access to law enforcement databases, computer-aided dispatch (CAD), and electronic report writing. The Department’s current MDC units, installed in 2017, have exceeded their expected service life and are due for replacement. Staff is recommending approval of payment to Code 3 Technology of $140,306.30 to purchase 26 Getac V110 G7 rugged convertible MDCs and 37 TG3 backlit keyboards. Replacing the aging MDCs will maintain reliable public safety technology while minimizing additional costs by reusing existing mounts and cabling. RECOMMENDATION Approve purchase of 26 Getac V110 G7 ruggedized laptops and 37 TG3 keyboards from Code 3 Technology for $140,306.30 to replace mobile data computers in the police fleet. 1. BACKGROUND The Pleasanton Police Department has utilized in-vehicle mobile data computers (MDCs) for over 25 years as standard equipment in patrol cars and other field units. These computers enable officers to perform essential duties in the field, including secure access to state and federal law enforcement databases, real-time dispatch information, report writing, and other mission-critical tasks that enhance responsiveness and efficiency. In 2011, the City completed a citywide MDC upgrade, and by July 2017, the Police Department’s MDCs (which had been in service since 2011) were reaching end-of-life and no longer supported by modern software requirements. In response, the City conducted a formal procurement in 2017 to replace the MDC hardware and vehicle mounting systems, introducing the Getac rugged computer platform into the police fleet. The 2017 MDC replacement project outfitted all front-line patrol vehicles with new Getac V110 series convertible laptops and updated docking mounts, significantly improving computing performance and in-vehicle ergonomics. The MDC units acquired in 2017 have been continuously used for almost eight years, well beyond the typical service life for such technology.
