exceptionally reliable, remaining operational with minimal technical issues far past their
expected replacement cycle. This longevity, about four years beyond expectations, is a
testament to the durability of the Getac equipment and the City’s prudent maintenance
practices. Nevertheless, given the rapid pace of technology advancement and the age of the
current units, replacing them at this time is necessary to ensure compatibility with current
software, maintain vendor support (warranties and parts availability), and avoid potential
failures that could disrupt police field operations.

DISCUSSION
The Police Department proposes to purchase 26 Getac V110 G7 fully rugged convertible
laptops (MDCs) and 37 TG3 backlit keyboards from Code 3 Technology to upgrade the in-
vehicle computer systems across the patrol fleet. The Getac V110 G7 is the latest generation
of the same model series currently in use, and the new units are compatible with the existing
docking stations, mounting hardware, and accessory peripherals installed in the police
vehicles. By continuing with Getac’s platform, the City avoids the significant additional expense
of replacing or re-engineering each vehicle's metal mounting brackets, docks, and cabling,
which would have been required if a different brand or form factor were selected. This
compatibility yields cost savings and minimizes vehicle downtime, as the new MDCs can be
quickly swapped into the existing mounts with little to no modification.

In addition to hardware compatibility, the City’s experience with Getac MDCs over the past
eight years has been very positive. The Getac units have demonstrated outstanding reliability,
with very few technical problems or failures reported during deployment. The previous MDC
fleet remained reliable and problem-free throughout its service, allowing the City to utilize them
well past the typical end-of-life. This proven track record gives the City confidence that the
Getac V110 G7 will continue to provide robust performance in the demanding public safety
environment. The new models also come with upgraded specifications – including faster 12th-
generation Intel processors, enhanced memory and storage, and modern Windows 11
operating systems – ensuring they meet current application needs and improve overall
efficiency. Notably, the Getac V110 G7 includes advanced connectivity features such as built-
in 5G wireless capability and GPS, which will support high-bandwidth data applications and
reliable communications for officers.

Code 3 Technology has been identified as the vendor for this purchase for several reasons.
First, Code 3 Technology is the assigned registered authorized reseller for Getac for the City of
Pleasanton, which means the manufacturer endorses them to supply and support these
rugged systems to public sector clients. This relationship ensures that the City will receive
genuine equipment with full warranty support and that technical assistance will be readily
available. Second, as part of the City’s procurement due diligence, staff obtained multiple
quotes and explored cooperative purchasing contracts for the MDC replacements. Code 3
Technology submitted the lowest price quote, meeting all the City’s specifications and
requirements and making them the most cost-effective choice. The vendor’s quote of
$140,306.30 includes all hardware (26 computers and 37 keyboards) and applicable taxes and
fees and reflects discounted pricing available through government contracts.

A proof of concept (POC) using a dozen comparable Getac V110 G7 units was first deployed
for operational testing alongside the Police Department’s new CAD/RMS/Mobile platform. The
POC phase validated performance, connectivity, and ergonomics in real-world patrol
conditions, and the devices subsequently moved into limited production use without incident.
