Pleasanton Police Department
Pleasanton PD Policy Manual
Body Worn Camera Systems
h. maintaining the peace at a protest or rally;
i. responding Code 3;
j. any other situation where an officer or supervisor reasonably determines that its use
would be appropriate or valuable to document an incident or record contact between
members of the public and the department.
Members who do not record as required by this policy shall articulate their reason(s) for
not utilizing their BWCS in the appropriate CAD entry and/or report and in a memorandum
to the Division Commander immediately after the conclusion of the incident, or as soon
thereafter as reasonably possible.
It shall be a violation of this policy for a members to intentionally fail to activate the BWCS
or terminate the recording in order to commit a violation of the law or any Department
Policy.
450.5.1 HOW TO RECORD
a) Users shall patrol with their BWC in “buffer” mode. While in buffer mode, the BWC
will continuously record in 30 second loops. During that 30 second period, only video is
being recorded, not audio.
b) When a user decides to activate their BWC, he or she will place the camera in “event”
mode to record the incident. In this mode, both video and audio will be recorded.
c) When the incident is over or the user stops recording for any other reason set forth in
this policy, he or she will return the BWC to “buffer” mode or turn off the BWC entirely.
450.5.2 SIGNAL ACTIVATION
The Axon Body 3 Camera includes technology that will activate the camera when in buffering
mode upon receiving a signal from a signal sidearm device or a Taser 7 device. A user's BWC
will be activated if in buffering mode and it receives a signal from any signal sidearm device or
Taser 7 device that is within the range of the BWC. This includes devices issued to the user as
well as AXON devices in the range of signal technology. Taser 7 signal technology is activated
when the Taser 7 is either armed, trigger is pulled or arc is engaged. Signal sidearm is activated
when a sidearm is removed from the holster.
450.5.3 TERMINATION OF BWCS RECORDINGS
Once a BWCS recording has been activated as provided in this Policy, it shall not be terminated
until the incident has concluded and no further communication with the participants or witnesses
is reasonably anticipated. Recording may also be stopped when the member or Supervisor
reasonably determines that there would be no further evidentiary or documentary value in
continuing to record an incident. The reasons for termination of recording before the conclusion
of an incident shall be articulated in the appropriate CAD entry or report of the incident.
Copyright Lexipol, LLC 2025/06/10, All Rights Reserved.
Published with permission by Pleasanton Police Department
Body Worn Camera Systems - 417
Attachment 2
Docusign Envelope ID: B1798F31-93DB-4AB1-AC82-92BCF01B645C
