City of Pleasanton, CA (0012108.00) 3-4 Woodard & Curran, Inc.
Pleasanton Long-Term Sewer CIP October 6, 2025
3.3.2 Lift Station Improvements
As part of the lift station condition assessment, recommendations for lift station rehabilitation were
classified as one of three different criticality levels:
• Criticality 3 – the most severe criticality, was defined as Repair/replace immediately because of
imminent failure or a safety hazard.
• Criticality 2 – was defined as Schedule repair/replacement because the equipment is at or exceeds its
useful life or failure would cause operations or safety problems.
• Criticality 1 – the least critical, was defined as Repair or replace as part of a long-term program
because the equipment is inefficient, worn and nearing its useful life, or is failing but is not crucial to
operation or safety.
Based on these definitions, all criticality 2 and 3 recommendations were considered Priority A projects. These
recommendations included rehabilitation actions for all 11 of the lift stations and range from pulling wires
and cutting conduits flush with finished floor to avoid trip hazards to a full lift station replacement (LS-5). A
detailed list of recommended rehabilitation actions are included in the Sewer Lift Station Assessment. A
summary of the priority A lift station costs is shown in Table 3-2.
An additional line item for a condition and capacity assessment of the existing East Amador lift station was
assigned Priority A. Based on the most recent capacity assessment, EALS is currently undersized to
accommodate the modeled peak wet weather flows. This analysis would allow the City to determine the
scope of future improvements required at the lift station. This line item also includes capacity assessment
and predesign work for East Amador Relief Sewer (EARS) force main and lift station. This station would
operate in tandem with EALS and give the City additional flexibility and redundancy when moving flows
from the Eastern sewer shed to the WWTF.
TABLE 3-2: PRIORITY A – LIFT STATION IMPROVEMENTS
Project Notes Estimated Total
Capital Cost
LS-02, -07, -08, -10 Improvements Includes all criticality 2 and 3 projects identified
in the Sewer Lift Station Assessment report
$1,420,000
LS-04, -12, -13, -15 Improvements $940,000
LS-05 Full Replacement Project
At the time of this project, a redundant siphon
will also be installed. Costs include demolition of
the existing station and assumes full
replacement, including cutover costs from the
old to new station.
$6,120,000
EARS and EALS Condition
Assessment, Capacity Evaluation,
and Predesign
$500,000
