SHC Tri-Valley East Wing Hospital Addition
Design Review Application – Project Narrative
TAYLOR DESIGN – 6370.101

9

MAKE READY
Prior to start of construction for the new east wing hospital addition several make ready projects need to be
completed as follows:
UTILITIES
As part of the development of this project, a significant amount of existing utility systems, both civil and non-
civil, will need to be relocated and it is anticipated that new utility systems will need to be installed.
STORM DRAINAGE
The East Wing Hospital Addition conflicts with the existing storm drainage system within this part of the campus.
The system will need to be split, relative to the direction it flows. The project area, to the west of the addition,
will be directed to the existing system that directs storm water towards Andrews Drive. The project area, to the
east of the addition, will be directed to the existing system that directs storm water towards W. Las Positas
Boulevard. The grading design will direct runoff to on-site treatment areas prior to the water discharging into
the main collection system. It is anticipated that pipe sizes will range from 6” to 18”. Bio-retention areas will be
strategically placed in areas where storm water runoff can be collected. Each of the treatment areas will consist
of bio-treatment soil, 18” minimum, with an infiltration rate of 5”/hour, 12” of drain rock and perforated 4”
collection pipe and an overflow drainage inlet.
SANITARY SEWER
The East Wing Hospital Addition conflicts with the existing sanitary sewer system within this part of the campus.
Unlike the existing storm drainage system, the existing sanitary sewer system directs sewerage to the east,
where it turns and heads in a southwestern direction. Due to the length of the hospital addition, routing a new
sewer line around the building will not provide enough fall for the sewerage to flow via gravity. As such, a new 8”
sewer line will be installed, along the western side of the new addition. This new line will convey sewerage
toward Andrews Drive and will connect to the existing public sewer line.
WATER
The new East Wing Hospital Addition conflicts with the existing site water and fire services to the medical office
building located at 5575 W. Las Positas Boulevard. The project will reroute the domestic water and fire water
services to clear the new East Wing building footprint, along the western side of the addition, around the
ambulance drop-off, and reconnect within the patient drop-off area. Existing water services to the hospital will
remain.
Existing underground utilities will be relocated in a phased manner to minimize impacts to hospital and medical
office building operations.
