Testing, Sampling, and Analysis Plan
January 15, 2025
5
Zone 7 Water Agency and
City of Pleasanton
6. Lowering the sonde into the well/borehole to the desired depth.
7. Initiating the recording process once at the desired depth (i.e., record up or Down).
8. Retrieving the sonde from the well/borehole and decontaminating.
9. Rigging down of sheave wheel and spooling wire-line into the vehicle.
3.7. Theory of Operation
Pacific surveys offers many different sondes which can characterize various different geologic, hydrologic
and physical properties of the well/wellbore.
3.7.1. Spinner (Flowmeter)
Spinner/Flowmeter measures vertical fluid velocity in a pumping or non-pumping well. A sensor counts
the revolutions of a mechanical impeller as the tool descends or ascends in the well. A production profile
of the pumping well can be determined over the entire perforated interval. With a continuous record, Q
values from any interval can be measured without interpolation. Hydraulic conductivity can be derived,
aiding in well design and ascertaining production problems. Combined withadepth-specific fluid sampling
system, the spinner can be used to determine the concentration of specific constituents when chemical
analysis is available. In non-pumping wells, the spinner can locate confining zones and calculate fluid
velocity between zones.
Spinner diameters are either 1-inch or 1-11/16-inch. Depending on the configuration, the length can range
from 24 inches to 5 feet. The 1-inch spinner is primarily used in small tubing or when tight clearances,
such as pump bowls, need to be passed.
A. Depth-Specific Fluid Sampling
Retrieve down-hole sealed fluid samples under pumping or non-pumping conditions from any depth in
well. Procedure for collecting and decontaminating sampler complies with EPA guidelines.
Procedure:The sample chamber is evacuated using a vacuum pump, sealed and sent down-hole to a
specific depth. The upper intake valve is opened electronically from the surface and the fluid sample is
taken. The upper intake valve is closed before returning to the surface. Once at the surface the sampler
is removed from the wire line and the sample is dispensed to collection bottles (see section 5). The in-situ
