330 Land Company, LLC Arroyo Lago
9785.004.001 Design-Level Geotechnical Report

Page | 15 April 16, 2024
Latest Revision October 31, 2025
Excavations resulting from demolition and stripping which extend below final grades, should be
cleaned to firm undisturbed soil, as determined by our representative. Once the surface of areas
to be graded are prepared as discussed above, the surface should then be scarified, moisture
conditioned, and backfilled with suitable material compacted to the recommendations presented
in Section 5.6.

5.2 SURCHARGE PROGRAM

To minimize post-construction total and differential settlements to allow for shallow foundations,
we recommend performing a surcharge program over the site, excluding Busch Pit. Tables
5.2-1 and 5.2-2 below presents our estimated surcharge heights per planned civil fill, considering
the location of residential lots relative to the former fill stockpile area and different time horizons
of surcharge placement. The estimated surcharge heights consider a surcharge fill mass (unit
weight of 120 pcf) of approximately 120 percent of the anticipated service loads of the project.

TABLE 5.2-1: Estimated Surcharge Height (Case 1: Residential Lots Not within Former Fill Stockpile
Area)
CIVIL FILL
(feet)
SURCHARGE HEIGHT ABOVE PROPOSED CIVIL FILL (feet)
4 MONTHS 6 TO 9 MONTHS 12 MONTHS
0 6 4½ 3½
1 6 5 4½
2 7 6 5½
3 8½ 7½ 7
4 9½ 8½ 8
5 10½ 9½ 9
6 12 11 10
7 13 12 11
8 14½ 13½ 12½

TABLE 5.2-2: Estimated Surcharge Height (Case 2: Residential Lots within Former Fill Stockpile Area)
ADDITIONAL CIVIL FILL
(feet)
SURCHARGE HEIGHT ABOVE PROPOSED CIVIL FILL (feet)
4 MONTHS 6 TO 9 MONTHS 12 MONTHS
0 1½ 0 0
1 3 1½ 0
2 4½ 2½ 0
3 6 4 1
4 7½ 5 2
5 9 6 3½
6 10½ 7½ 4½
7 12 8½ 5½
8 13½ 10 7

Lots entirely within the former fill stockpile area, as shown in Figure 2, may use Table 5.2-2 to
determine surcharge heights; otherwise, Table 5.2-1 should be used to determine surcharge
heights. Surcharge heights should be selected based on the average height of civil fill placed
within structural areas, rounded up. Surcharge heights should be stepped, non-structural
improvements for Cases 1 and 2 (such as streets and parks) and should be surcharged with a
minimum height of 4 feet.
