Throughout
this Plan, the term walking, bicycling, and rolling recognizes the
many ways people travel without a car.
Rolling includes travel using mobility devices, such as
wheelchairs and mobility scooters, as well as other small-
wheeled devices, such as scooters and skateboards,
where appropriate. Designing comfortable, accessible, and
connected facilities benefits everyone who uses the active
transportation network.
Equitable Investments
The Plan seeks to ensure that investments in walking and
bicycling infrastructure provide benefits throughout the
community and support people with a range of transportation
needs. Equity considerations were incorporated into the project
prioritization process alongside safety, connectivity, comfort,
and community input.
The Plan places particular emphasis on improving safety and
access near locations that serve people who may be more
dependent on walking, bicycling, transit, or other active modes,
such as schools, senior centers, transit hubs, parks, and
community destinations.
“Pleasanton envisions a safe, low-stress, and connected network for walking, bicycling,
and rolling that empowers people of all ages and abilities to travel and recreate without
barriers.”
