Leslie Mendez

From:
Sent:
To:
Subject:

I
Sunday, August 06,20063:13 PM
Leslie Mendez
proposed addition

Leslie

I am a Pleasanton resident opposed to the proposed addition at 4546 Second St,
The plan disregards the Municipal Code. This will render the code unenforcable in the
future if variances are allowed for this project.

There are many older homes on Second Street that are in need of remodeling. To maintain
the architecture and beauty of the street, the codes should be strictly enforced, To do
otherwise would invite future remodelers to disregard the code
and build "Mcmansionsll on one of Pleasanton's most historic and beautiful streets.

My family regularly walks and rides bikes in the area and we still marvel at how the
aesthetics of the older homes have been maintained. It is not an accident. It is because
the Codes have been enforced. If builders and developers can disregard the Municipal
Code, they will push to squeeze as much square footage as possible on to every lot to
mazimize their profit.

Also, I understand the plan proposses an 833 sq. ft. basement. Is this living space?
and if so, it should be considered as part of the square footage. If not look for other
developers to build huge basements which will affect parking as these spaces no doubt
will be rented out,

One final thing. The plan calls for a balcony in the backyard that overlooks his side
neighbors backyards! This will destroy any semblance of privacy the neigbors have,
The city should have a code to prohibit such balconies unless the neighbors affected agree
to it.

The codes are clear. Follow them to maintain the aesthtic beauty of Second Street.

Thank You

Ricardo Padilla

1
