20.08.049
for leakage at 200 psi for one (1)
hour minimum.
107.1.5 All sprinkler riser piping
shall be either non-ferrous metallic
pipe (copper, or brass) or CPVC. All
piping above the flow switch shall be
protected by sheet rock or plywood.
Note: No ferrous (black iron, iron or
galvanized) pipe is permitted.
Sec. 9.108 Units
Metric units of measurement in this
standard are in accordance with the
modernized metric system known as
the International System of Units
(SI). Two (2) units (liter and bar),
outside of but recognized by SI, are
commonly used in international fire
protection.
108.1 If a valve for measurement as
given in this standard is followed by
an equivalent value in other units,
the first stated is to be regarded as
the requirement. A given equivalent
value may be approximate.
CHAPTER 2 *Water Supply
Sec. 9.201 General Provisions
Every automatic sprinkler system
shall have at least one (1) automatic
water supply. When stored water is
used as the sole source of supply, the
minimum quantity shall equal the
water demand rate times ten (10)
minutes.
Sec. 9.202 *Water Supply Sources
The following water supply sources
are acceptable:
202.1 A connection to a reliable
water works system.
202.2 *An elevated tank.
202.3 A pressure tank installed in
accordance with NFPA 13, Standard
for the Installation of Sprinkler Sys-
tems, and NFPA 22, Standard for
Water Tanks for Private Fire Protec-
tion.
202.4 A stored water source with an
automatically operated pump.
Sec. 9.203 Multipurpose Piping Sys-
tem
A piping system serving both fire
sprinkler and domestic needs shall be
acceptable when:
203.1 In common water supply con-
nections serving more than one (1)
dwelling unit, five (5) gallons per
minute (19 L/min) per dwelling unit
is added to the sprinkler system
demand to determine the size of
common piping and the size of the
total water supply requirements.
Exception: Note Chapter 4 for spe-
cific hydraulic calculation require-
ments.
(Pleasanton April 2000) '700_4
