notified. His children walk along Dennis to catch a school bus on Kamp. Other
neighbors are in similar situations. The traffic is very bad in this area and he would like
to see something done. If this is the opportunity for it to take place, he supports the
neighbors. There is no person from the Stoneridge Park homes on the traffic calming
committee. All of the signatures are from the area that would be best treated and he
requested representation and inclusion in the process.

Brian Arkin, 3740 Newton Way, was concerned about the issue of safety for
students. If the street were widened then the traffic will travel at a faster rate. He that
that the speed of the traffic would be better controlled either through the use of traffic
circles or one-way flow. Widening the street would cause drivers to go faster than they
do now. Whatever is done needs to be done in a timely manner and in a way that is tied
into the development of the homes in the area.

Anne Fox, 2866 Garden Creek Circle, talked about the Molar Elementary School
safety of children that actually walk to school. If someone is trying to go west to east
through the neighborhood there are not many options that have full sidewalks. If
someone goes on Mohr Avenue west to east, the sidewalk on one side of the street
disappears on the Busch Property. Students end up crossing the street in the middle of
the block. If someone lives further north and reach Mohr Elementary by way of Kamp,
that route does not have a sidewalk. Pleasanton City Council introduced approximately 4
years ago a no parking area between 7-9 am and 2-4 pm because the students have to
walk on a sidewalk less street while the cars are traveling on the street. Many students
walk the Newton/Dennis Drive route because there is a sidewalk that ends on one side of
the street near the curb and find another sidewalk on the other side to use. She believed
the City should insure the sidewalks are completed as soon as possible in all of the areas
because when the Busch Property is built there will be more traffic and foot traffic in the
area. She asked that if the traffic were diverted to Stoneridge Drive, Council should be
aware that at the Newton, Stone Point and Stoneridge intersection, there is not a traffic
signal and students would have no signal in place to aid in their safety. If there is going
to be discussions with potential closure or any other traffic calming device, then the
residents of Glen Isle and Rose Rock Circle, as well as those offofKamp, would need to
be notified. Much of the foot traffic goes by Newton/Dennis because of the existing
sidewalk.

Ray Peterson, 2201 Martin Avenue, said he and Michele were unaware they were
opening up the discussion of this traffic issue when they started on their project. They
were concerned about the potential traffic problem in the front of their property with
Mohr Elementary School. He agreed with the neighbors about the traffic problem that
exists especially if the street is widened. The sidewalk would dead-end into a fence and
the students would have to cross the street at that point.

There being no further speakers, the public hearing was closed.

Pleasanton City Council 16 09.02.03
Minutes
