Project No. 9929.G Geotechnical Invesrigation/Vineyard Avenue, Pleasanton
8 August 2003
Pavement Design
61. Pavement Sections: Based on our experience with similarly soils in the area, an R-value
of 10 will be assumed for preliminary design. The recommended design thicknesses presented
below were calculated in accordance with the methods presented in Topic 608 of the California
Department of Transportation Highway Design Manual.
Table 1: Recommended Asphalt Concrete Pavement Sections
~~ DESYGN .`~ CRETE
.-r-ASPI.TAL . Please note that the above design is preliminary. It is recommended that after rough
subgrade is achieved, and underground utilities are near completion, representative samples of
soil should be collected and tested to determine the actual R-Values so that a final design maybe
obtained.
63. After underground facilities have been placed in the areas to receive pavement and
removal of excess material has been completed, the upper 6 inches of the subgrade soil should be
scarified, moisture conditioned and compacted to a minimum relative compaction of 95°io at 2 to
3% above optimum moisture content accordance with the grading recommendations specified in
this report. The pavement subgrade should not be allowed to dry excessively before covering
with aggregate base.
TERRASEARCH, inG Page 28 of 53
