Consideration of the scone and process for a proposed saecific plan for the eastern aortion
- of the City of Pleasanton
Chair Cooper noted for the record that the staff report for this item has not yet been completed.
However, since so many public notices were sent out, it was decided to proceed with the public heazing.
He stated that a special meeting will be scheduled specifically for this issue and all residents will
received a notice.
Brian Swift, Planning Director, stated that after the Ponderosa project on the Busch property was
originally approved by the City Council, it was referended by the requisite number of signatures
collected. The City Council then decided to rescind their approval, rather than put the issue on the ballot.
At the same time, they requested that the Planning Commission determine a proposed study for the east
side of Pleasanton. They specifically asked the Planning Commission to determine whether such a study
should take place, what its purpose should be, the scope of the study, the azea of the study, and the
process for conducting the study. Mr. Swift also described the vazious types of studies that could be
done and stated that any of them would have to be consistent with and conform to the General Plan or
propose changes to the General Plan. He noted that staff will prepaze a report and give
recommendations after hearing the public's input and the Commission's recommendation.
In addition, Mr. Swift noted his February 25, 1998, Memorandum describes the action taken by the City
Council and what they have requested from the Planning Commission. He also stated that the issues
staff would like to have addressed by the public and by the Commission aze identified in the
Memorandum. He also pointed out that one of the issues to be determined is whether the boundary line
stops at Stanley Boulevard to the south or whether it should go even further than that.
